BBC reports that a 22 year old man decided to try and use his arse as a launch pad for a firework and ended up with a scorched colon. I mean, come on.

Davis takes the lead
In our fantasy football mini league (consisting of myself, Tim and Richard) I have reigned supreme since the start of the season.
However, Davis has just taken the lead (albeit by one point) which is very annoying. I might have to do some transfers or something.

A Pub Quiz
God it's been ages hasn't it? This week, a part reprieve from the horrors of the north meant I could attend the quiz. Ursula, Rob, Chris the Muso and I came third out of six, missing out on second place by virtue of the tie breaker.
Some questions we got right:
1) Someone who knows the price of everything and the value of [blank]. Complete the Oscar Wilde quote.
2) If a captain reports to a major, who does a general report to?
3) In 1875, Britain acquired a 40% share of which waterway?
4) What are the first three words of the Old Testament
Some questions we got wrong:
1) X Factor Winner Steve Brockstein had a number one hit right after the competition finished. What was it called?
Can't remember any others :(

...and a fascinating discussion ensues
Homework for bass lesson last night was to find five songs where the bass line was played using a pick and five where they were fingered. We spent quite a lot of time on this. I was about 70% right, but apparently I chose ones that were very difficult.
Anyway:
1) Supersonic / Oasis - I said pick, Al agreed.
2) Never Be Lonely / The Feeling - I said pick. The verses sound fingered, but the choruses sound picked. Jury's still out, but it's leaning my way
3) My Iron Lung / Radiohead - I said pick. This took a lot of listening to, but you can just about make out a scrape when it hits the octave notes.
4) Bullets / Editors - This is where Al started showing off. He immediately agreed that it was picked, but then identified the guitar the bassist was playing ("Old model Rickenbacker with flat wound strings if I'm not mistaken")
5) Are You Gonna Be My Girl / Jet - Picked, no contest
6) God Put a Smile Upon Your Face / Coldplay - I said fingered. I was wrong :(
7) Bring It On / Gomez - I said fingered, I was right :)
8) Talk Show Host / Radiohead - More hot fingering action (fnar fnar)
9) Come Together / The Beatles - I said fingered, I was wrong :(
10) Wild Wood / Paul Weller - Again, fingered
11) Golden / Jill Scott - I didn't know what this was, so I decided to burn it on the disc and ask Al. He said it was probably a 5 string variant of a Jazzmaster copy.
You know, it was absolutely fascinating watching him listening to the music - it really reminded me of sitting with people who know an awful lot about wine mulling over the different flavours and aromas. So in touch with his senses, very enviable.
Music wise, I pretty much nailed 'This is the place' by the chilis, so next up we're going to tackle some Rage Against The Machine. "Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me" territory, except it's not that one.
Ok. Time to finish off that fucking website.

Good Consumer
So, I ordered my new laptop online. It says it'll be a week or two. I'm not sure if I can wait that long. Apparently I have to go back to liverpool next week, so I might stop off at the birmingham apple store on the way and buy one...
First ever girlfriend
My first ever girlfriend has found some profile I created on myspace and never used and sent me an email. I haven't heard from her in years and years. Last time I saw her she was getting married.
